February, 2026
When Moses joined Justice Nest as a paralegal in 2025, he did not yet know how profoundly that decision would transform his life. At the time, he was an inmate searching not only for justice, but for purpose. What he found through Justice Nest was knowledge, empowerment, and ultimately, freedom.
His journey began with paralegal training organized by Justice Nest, where he gained foundational knowledge in criminal law. Eager to learn more, Moses later attended NITA Trial Advocacy training from 23rd to 27th June 2025. During this intensive program, he sharpened his understanding of trial procedures, cross-examination, direct examination, and the impeachment process. These were not just legal concepts to him they were tools for change.
Armed with this knowledge, Moses began assisting fellow inmates, both convicts and remandees, in navigating the complex justice system. He helped them understand the trial process and the rights of arrested persons. He guided them on alternative dispute resolution, and supported many in drafting appeals to the High Court and Court of Appeal, as well as preparing applications and petitions.
For Moses, this was more than volunteer work it was a calling aligned with Justice Nest’s vision of creating a family-centric and accessible justice system, especially for those who could not afford legal representation. Within the prison walls, he became a source of hope and guidance.
But as he helped others, something remarkable happened. Moses began reflecting on his own case. Through the very knowledge he was sharing, he identified challenges he had encountered during his trial. Encouraged by his growth and newfound confidence, he drafted his own Application for Revision of Sentence, requesting that the remainder of his sentence be served under probation as a non-custodial measure.
The application was filed at the High Court of Kenya as Miscellaneous Application No. E016 of 2025. The matter went through several mention dates, each one testing his patience and faith. Then, on 18th February 2026, the long-awaited ruling was delivered.
The High Court ruled in his favor.
In delivering the judgment, the Judge noted that the time Moses had already served was sufficient. The Court particularly recognized his rehabilitation efforts, highlighting the theological and paralegal trainings he had undertaken as clear evidence of reform and personal transformation. That day marked the beginning of a new chapter. Moses walked out not only as a free man, but as a reformed and empowered individual proof that access to justice and education can truly change lives.
Today, Moses looks back with deep gratitude. He thanks the entire Justice Nest family for believing in him when it mattered most. Their unwavering support did more than provide legal training it restored his dignity, strengthened his purpose, and gave him a second chance.
His story stands as a powerful reminder: when knowledge meets opportunity, transformation is possible.
